GYPSIES OF BANDAR ABBS, MAY 2005

OLYMPUS-OM2 / Negative

In the city of Bandar Abbas, located in the southern region of Iran, a wedding ceremony unfolded with a distressing scene. The Gypsies, already marginalized and vulnerable, were subjected to a degrading and cruel tradition. As they played music at the event, the guests callously stuck money onto their wet faces, treating them as mere objects of amusement and disregarding their dignity and humanity. This unfortunate display of insensitivity and disrespect cast a shadow over what should have been a joyous occasion, leaving a bitter taste in the mouths of those who witnessed the distressing mistreatment of the Gypsy community.
